Born Desirê Karabo Reddy, this proud Aquarian is a third-generation artist whose musical roots run deep, her parents, Mama-Winnie Kekana and Frans Kekana, are celebrated names in the South African music scene.

Breaking Ground in Limp-Hop

Dezry Kay’s career began in the vibrant Limpopo hip-hop community, where she made history as the first Sepedi female rapper in the Limp-hop movement.

Her big break came through the mentorship of Space Munna, a prominent figure in the genre, who produced her early works, including Tjeya and Kgoshigadi. The latter earned her a nomination for Best Rap Song at the Sepedi Music Awards in 2018, marking her as a trailblazer in an emerging cultural movement.

Her music blends commercial hip-hop with a bold, modern edge. Performing primarily in English while weaving in elements of her heritage, Dezry Kay’s songs are enriched by her rural upbringing and cultural identity. She seamlessly merges Afropop, Dancehall, and Hip-Hop, creating tracks that are both infectious and meaningful. Her discography is as diverse as her influences. Standout singles like Ride, which delves into the complexities of family interference in relationships, and YHOO!, a reggae-infused collaboration with Pepsin, showcase her storytelling range. She is currently continuing her piano training at Young Rebel Music School in Ferndale, demonstrating her commitment to mastering her craft and constantly evolving as a musician.
